The following pages contain sample food products. At the bottom of each page, a mini-quiz has been included for you to choose whether the sample product meets the Shop for Gold! recommendations or not.

Instructions (example):

Shop for Gold! products are food products that meet healthy recommended levels of:

  • Fat
  • Fibre
  • Sodium (Salt)
  • GI (Glycemic Index)

Compare the sample product (Quantity Per 100g) with the Shop for Gold! recommendations:

  QUANTITY PER 100g of product SHOP FOR GOLD! recommendations
FAT 2.3g
5g per 100g or less; 10g per 100g or less if bread is grainy
FIBRE 3.0g
7.5g per 100g or more
GI High
Low; “Look for heavy, sourdough or wholegrain breads”
SODIUM 450mg 400mg per 100g or less
   
  • A product is classified as goldGOLD If it meets ALL of the Shop for Gold! criteria
  • A product is classified as silverSILVER If it meets ALL BUT ONE of the shop for Gold! criteria. But it MUST MEET FAT levels.

  • A product does not meet Shop for Gold! recommendationsDOES NOT MEET SHOP FOR GOLD! RECOMMENDATIONS when MORE THAN ONE of the Shop for Gold! criteria are not met, or if it does not meet Fat levels.
